Northwell Health and Keep Islip Clean joined forces Friday to run the second annual “Team Up to Clean Up” effort in Bay Shore.
“This was a very inspiring group of volunteers,” said Nancy Cochran, the executive director of Keep Islip Clean, a Keep America Beautiful affiliate. “Spur Drive South was encrusted with litter, and the group not only cleaned a long stretch, they cleaned it thoroughly.”
Northwell Health and PSEG sent out the largest teams of volunteers.
Crews from Capital One Bank and Bank of America also participated, as well as individual people who showed up to help. SCPD officers were also on hand to keep the volunteers safe.
“These volunteers did everything but polish the grass!” Cochran said. “They were a lot of fun, too, which makes any effort a better experience.”
Over 100 bags were filled with trash on Friday, Cochran said, “so you can imagine the improvement in the beauty and health of the local environment.”
