Bohemia woman rescued from burning car on LIE service road in Islandia


Three good Samaritans rescued a Bohemia woman from her burning car Sunday night on the south service road of the Long Island Expressway, police said.

Becky Boeckmann, 35, had crashed her 2009 Pontiac G6 into a tree after losing control of the vehicle about 6:45 p.m. She was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition.

Two of Boeckman’s rescuers are off-duty members of the Central Islip Fire Department. The third is a lifeguard.

One the firefighters, Eric Leonard, pulled the woman from the vehicle, while the other, Kenneth Degan, put out the fire. The lifeguard, Robyn Frank, provided medical aid to Boeckmann.

No other injuries were reported in the wreck.
