New life coming to the old Boardy Barn property in Hampton Bays

|

Two well-known Hamptons summer hangouts — the Drift Inn and the Boardy Barn — are preparing (in a way) for a glorious return with a new joint venture, according to reports. The news started circulating widely Thursday after Barstool Sports posted this Instagram reel.

One of the new leaseholders of the old Boardy Barn property, Chuck Cabrera, had also told 27east.com the plan is to open in May, “most likely Memorial Day.”

Then the details began to emerge through Barstool. According to Kevin Clancy, a longtime personality for the sports media company that’s known for its humor and irreverent content, the two legendary Hampton Bays bars inspired a new venue called the Barnyard Beer Gardens.

“I’m ecstatic to announce that both bars are making a comeback into one place under a new name, the Barnyard Beer Gardens,” Clancy said in his announcement.

The Drift Inn closed about a decade ago at 58 Foster Ave.

The Boardy Barn served its last drink during the summer of 2021. The property at 270 W. Montauk Highway was sold last May. Here was a post from the official Boardy Barn account to announce the selling of the location:

“Mickey Shields and Tony Galgano first opened the barn doors on April 16, 1970. From that day forward, the Boardy Barn became better and more unique the moment each of you passed through those doors. We are deeply grateful for the memories we hold in our hearts.”

It is unclear who the full ownership of this next venture is, but according to Clancy, the new Barnyard Beer Gardens will open on May 21 in Hampton Bays at the old Boardy Barn location.

“Saturday nights, they’re recreating the Drift Inn, and then the next day it’s Sunday Funday on the same exact grounds that you and your mother and your grandmother used to party on,” he said.

The owners of Boardy Barn, who sold the property last year, clarified via Instagram that the new owners of the location are not associated with Boardy Barn, a trademark that they still own.
