The new “Escape from the Penitentiary” attraction opens Oct. 10 at Bull Smith’s Tavern.
Bull Smith’s Tavern is serving up more than burgers and brews this Halloween — it’s now home to one of Long Island’s scariest new haunts.
It’s called Nightmare on Main Street Presents Escape from the Penitentiary, a nearly 6,000-square-foot haunted maze designed to shock, scare and spook even the bravest visitors.
“I woke up one Saturday morning and sent a text to our marketing team saying I think we should build a haunted house in the parking lot,” owner Max Feinberg told Greater Long Island. “For whatever reason, nobody stopped me — and here we are.”
But this isn’t your typical pop-up attraction.
The experience is fully immersive, featuring a dozen live actors, bursts of smoking toxic gas, even an “elevator” that plunges guests hundreds of feet underground to one of the world’s most infamous prisons.
“Unbeknownst to many Long Islanders, there’s a place under the streets of Smithtown that houses the most notorious prisoners known to mankind,” Feinberg said. “We’re inviting guests to come take a tour and walk through the prison. What could possibly go wrong?”
Escape from the Penitentiary opens Oct. 10 and runs through Nov. 2 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 7 to 11 p.m.
Tickets are $40 per person and include a spooky cocktail or mocktail at Bull Smith’s Tavern after your escape attempt. $5 from every ticket will be donated to the Matt Martin Foundation which raises money for training and placing service dogs with veterans and those struggling with PTSD.
Walk-ups are welcome, but reservations are recommended. Click here for tickets.
