Local filmmaker James Evans will take the Mastic Beach Mini Indie Film Fest online for its sophomore run.
The festival, which will run from Nov. 6-8, will be entirely virtual through its website, according to Donna’s House Productions, which Evans founded.
Attendees will witness the work of filmmakers from across the globe, including the United States, Korea, Iran, Turkey and Israel.
In addition to a slate of narrative, documentary, experimental and surreal short films, this year’s festival will screen two feature-length narrative films: Juhyoung Ra’s “Atlantic City” and Frank Coraci’s “Hot Air.”
Coraci, a Long Island native, will be headlining the festival Sunday night. He is best known for directing “The Wedding Singer” and “The Waterboy,” both starring Adam Sandler.
Each segment will include filmmaker introductions and Q&As.
On Saturday and Sunday, the festival will have designated “student blocks” featuring up-and-coming filmmakers from William Floyd High School and Stony Brook University, two of Evans alma maters. The press release emphasizes this is part of Donna’s House Production’s community outreach initiative.
The festival will also showcase performances from local musical acts. A Band in Ship will close out Friday’s event, BLIX on Saturday and The Whatevers From High Atop the Thing on Sunday.
Several authors, including Susan Scarf Merrell, Joel Mowdy, Chris Knopf and Nicholas Collins, will also read their works.
From the comfort of their homes, festival-goers may also attend a virtual brunch that will feature specialty cocktail recipes and an array of local and international artwork photography.
Patrons can purchase a single-day ticket for $15 or a three-day festival pass for $35 through the website now.
According to a Donna’s House Productions press release, the festival is an opportunity to give everyone a voice.
“The Mastic Beach Mini Indie Film Fest aims to celebrate artists from all walks of life, perspectives, and geographical locations, both domestic and foreign. Our hope is that through this exhibition and celebration of work, that the discussions that follow will open our eyes to the GRIT we all embody in this human experience we call life. We aim to continuously elevate this conversation each year while appreciating and highlighting the natural scenery of our historic seaside community.”
