Lacrosse lovers, this one’s for you!

The annual Gains For Brains lacrosse showcase is this weekend in — not one, but two locations on Long Island: Mount Sinai and Cold Spring Harbor high schools.

Known as the premier high school girl’s lacrosse showcase in the country, Gains For Brains features the top high school lacrosse teams in the Tri-State area and raises money for the Making Headway Foundation, which helps children with brain and spinal cord tumors.

The event, started in 2015 by Andrew Rappaport, has raised more than $60,000 for the foundation.

“We’ve been gone the last two years because of the pandemic, so while this is the eighth year… It’s only the sixth event,” Rappaport told Greater Long Island. “It started with just a handful of teams and now this year has grown to a two day event at two different high schools featuring 14 teams from around the Tri-State.”

The event features both nationally ranked teams and some of the highest-recruited lacrosse players in the country.

“Teams love to be a part of it,” said Rappaport. “Maybe next year we can grow even bigger and get even more high schools involved.”

Admission is free, though donations are encouraged and there is a big bake sale.
