Brukhardt will be making her Gateway debut in the lead role of Maria Rainer in The Sound of Music, which will be running from July 31 through Aug. 17.

This all comes 61 years after The Sound of Music first lit up Broadway in 1958, winning five Tony Awards including awards for Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical. The 1965 film version garnered several Academy Awards and Golden Globes.

Now the show’s being taken to within the intimate Gateway playhouse on South Country Road, with a musical score that includes “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss,” and the title song, “The Sound of Music.”

The musical tells the story of troubled nun sent to care for 7 well off children in a strict home run by a former sea-captain. She changes their lives forever through song and heart.
