The Amazing Olive in Patchogue

The much-anticipated gourmet olive oil shop The Amazing Olive has opened its doors in downtown Patchogue.

Owner Steve Munoz said he and his girlfriend worked through the night on July 4 and opened the next day, Tuesday, on East Main Street.

The goal all along was to be in business before July 7, the first Alive After Five.

“Tomorrow’s the big day,” Munoz said from the shop Wednesday. “Alive After Five, with all the people, and all the exposure. I can’t wait.”

The Amazing Olive is located between Blum’s Swimwear and Roast Coffee & Tea Trading Company, in a former nail salon.

Customers will find about four dozen air-tight steel vats called fustis, each of which is filled with premium, award-winning olive oils or balsamic vinegars from around the world.

Everything is available for tasting, with or without bread, and for take-home bottling.

Cooking wise, Munoz encourages customers to use the oils for finishing.

“You can be the worst cook in the world, all you have to do is prepare some chicken and drizzle a little of this on it,” he said.

“People will say, ‘How did you do that?’ It works wonders.”
