Wild 120 MPH chase in Southampton ends in bust — a week later

|

Southampton police arrested a 21-year-old Bay Shore woman this week following a high-speed police chase that reached speeds in excess of 120 miles per hour through Southampton earlier this month.

Shanelle Hagood was arrested on Thursday, more than a week after the Aug. 12 incident that began when Southampton police observed her vehicle violating a traffic law near the traffic circle of Route 24 and Lake Avenue in Riverside, police said.

When officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, Hagood fled the scene, driving at dangerous speeds over 120 mph, according to authorities.

Following a nine-day investigation, officers located Hagood in the Bay Shore area and charged her with third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and reckless driving.

Hagood was transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters for processing and arraignment, cops said.

The defendant has three other ongoing criminal cases in state courts, one involving grand larceny charges and two involving petit larceny charges, court records show.
