Some of the finest kitchen staffs from across Long Island came to Patchogue on Sunday for Pulse Magazine’s Great Burger Battle at Shorefront Park.
And when the dust settled on a hot day, Dirty Burger of Plainview was declared the greatest burger in all of Long Island, followed by Go Burger of Ridge and South Shore Dive Pub & Kitchen of West Sayville.

Voting was simple. Attendees were each given a token at the door and were encouraged to try burgers from all 10 participating restaurants and pick their favorite one.
Pulse, which is based in Patchogue Village, started the first round of voting online with 50 restaurants and narrowed it down to 25 in the second round.
More than 2,500 votes were cast from the second to third round, with the remaining 10 battling in the park.
Publisher Nada Marjanovich said 1,200 tickets were sold before Sunday’s event and more were being sold at the gates.
This was Pulse’s third Great Burger Battle, which started in 2013.
“It’s like a giant cook off,” she said on why she thought the event was so popular. “When it’s a hot summer afternoon, people want to have a big barbecue by the water, and Shorefront park in Patchogue is the place to come and do that.”
One restaurant from Patchogue made it to the Top 10 and got to compete in its hometown Sunday: The Tap Room on West Main Street in the village.
“We’re excited to be a part of it,” said Tap Room co-ownerJames Bonanno. “Especially seeing the list when it started, with all the different restaurants from across Long Island. There was really stiff competition, some really great places.
“And even here, I’m personal friends with a lot of these people,” he continued. “So it’s fun having a day out with friends and I’m just humbled to be grouped in with all of them.”
