When you combine family, raw talent, and an unwavering will to succeed, the results can be pretty impressive. The group “MJT, formerly “Michael Jazz Trio,” consists of three self-taught musicians from Central Islip who also happen to be brothers.

And they’re taking the Long Island music scene by storm.

In 2014, attorney Justin Bonus of Brooklyn took on the role of their manager when they were in the process of reinventing themselves, and they’ve since transitioned from jazz to rock.

The move is paying off with packed local houses and, now, an invite to play at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Tex., this coming March.

Matthew Michael Godfrey, 22, plays keys in a number of different and unique projects. Currently he is working with MJT, SOFUS, iSelf, The Frankle Sisters, and Cuttin Cottin.

David Michael Godfrey, 20, is the lead vocalist, guitar player, and the primary lyricist in MJT. He also plays the saxophone and the bass guitar.

The youngest of the group, Jordan Michael Godfrey, 16, began playing drums at the age of five. Jordan’s skill and musical prowess at such a young age often leaves onlookers entranced and captivated.

Greatness certainly awaits this incredible trio as they embark on the next leg of their journey.

In the meantime, you can see them at 7:30 p.m. on Halloween night at Portside Bar & Grill in Port Jefferson at a POSP show called Night of the Living Cover Bands. MJT will play The Beatles.
