Like 29 other communities across Long Island and NYC, New Jersey and Connecticut, the Hamlet of Islip now has itself a Best Market.
For those who might be wondering, the family-run Best Market is the same company that runs the Best Yet Markets, which have undergone a re-branding.
According to its website, Best Market, which is based in Bethpage, boasts affordable prices that don’t require anyone joining a club or carrying a card.
The company Best Yet Market Inc. started in 1994 with a produce stand in Ronkonkoma, at a place called Produce Warehouse, according to Newsday. It’s run by the Raitses family,
Aviv Raitses and his son, Or, were on hand Friday in Islip, at their latest supermarket opening.
They were joined by Islip Chamber of Commerce leaders, locally elected officials, the company’s president and CEO, Rebecca Philbert, and the Islip store’s manager, Jimmy Maloney, for a ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Best Market had a soft opening a week ago at 155 Islip Avenue, a former Pathmark.
According to Newsday, the company recently bought 10 former Pathmark and Waldbaum’s locations after their parent company, Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. went bankrupt.
