Patchogue Village on Sunday served as home base for the second annual Suffolk County Marathon.

The village also hosted the Freedom Fest musical component of marathon day, and the Taste of Long Island festival that drew farmers, wine makers, brewers and artisan food vendors from across the island to the South Shore.

Participants ran through the hamlets between Patchogue Village and Heckscher State Park, and then back to Patchogue, starting at 8 am.

The event, which is run by the county, includes a marathon, half marathon, and a 5K race (new to this year). Proceeds go toward helping veterans living in the county.  Last year’s races and festivities raised over $160,000 for local veterans.

Sayville native and Cohasset, Mass., resident Mark Maggi was first to finish the marathon, with a time of 2:48:08.4.
