20 Photos: Scenes from the 26th annual Post Office 5K race to end MPS

Saturday marked the 26th running of the Post Office 5K and 1K Fun Run to end MPS.

The fundraiser drew 800 runners, their families and supporters to Babylon, where current and former Post Office and Lessing’s Hospitality Group employees were also on hand.

A couple hours before that, some runners headed to CrossFit 231 in Babylon for a pre-run workout with CrossFit Lindy.

Both CrossFits raised money and made purple and green shirts for all runners.

All proceeds go to the nonprofit MPS Society.

MPS, or Mucopolysaccharidoses, is an often fatal genetic disease in children which prevents the production of specific enzymes that help strengthen the body. As of now there is no cure.

Along the 5K course were purple and green balloons in memory Mark and Casey Lessing. Casey’s birthday would have been this past Wednesday, Oct. 18. Read prior coverage.
