America’s 250th birthday party got an early start in Mastic Beach on Saturday, as the William Floyd Community Summit hosted Tri-Hamlet Day Celebration at the William Floyd Estate.
Locals enjoyed live music and the company of local officials during the two-hour event at the historic location, which features the 25-room Old Mastic House; 11 outbuildings; the Floyd family cemetery; and 613 acres of fields, trails and forest.
Even though the country’s 250 birthday is five years away, the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission is already working with public and private entities across the country to plan a broad array of events to celebrate “America 250.”
And William Floyd Community Summit President Beth Wahl said Saturday’s celebration in Mastic Beach is all about creating awareness of the Floyd estate, the only existing estate in New York state that belonged to a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
