Road closures announced for Friday’s Soldier Ride through Babylon Town

|

The Wounded Warriors’ annual Babylon Soldier Ride is this Friday.

The kick-off ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. in front of  Babylon Town Hall in Lindenhurst. From there, the racers will head across the Robert Moses Causeway and finish at Overlook Beach with a picnic.

According to the state Department of Transportation, motorists should expect road closures on these roadways from 10-2 p.m.:

• Southbound Robert Moses Causeway between Southern State Parkway to Ocean Parkway.

• Ocean Parkway westbound between Robert Moses Causeway and Overlook Beach.

These two stretches of roadway will be closed to traffic starting at 10 a.m.

“If the ride concludes earlier than 2 p.m. the road will reopen sooner,” said a DOT spokesman.

There will also be roving closures along the roads listed below at points between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. (exact times are not given):

• NY27/Sunrise Highway westbound between Babylon Town Hall and CR3/Wellwood Avenue

• NY110/Broadway southbound between Oak Street and NY27A/Montauk Highway

• NY27A/Montauk Highway eastbound between NY110/Broadway and CR3/Wellwood Avenue

• NY109 southbound between Railroad Avenue and NY27A/Montauk Highway

• NY27A/Montauk Highway eastbound between NY109 and Robert Moses Causeway

The DOT also urges motorists to take note of the portable variable message signs that have been placed along the roadways with alerts and detour information. Or contact the Town of Babylon or the Suffolk County Police Department for additional information.
