From Aug. 26 through Sept. 2, up to 40 artists, working in a variety of mediums, will follow in the footsteps of Monet, van Gogh, and other notable en plein air painter by setting up their easels and paint on-site, throughout the Great South Bay area.

The event kicked off at the Patchogue Arts Gallery with artist registration and canvas stamping. Afterwards, the artists hit the towns and villages of the Great South Bay to paint, paint, and paint!

Registered artists are invited to participate in a “draw a taco for a taco” event at Swell Taco, Patchogue on Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. Although the special offer is only for Paint the Great South Bay painters, all are welcome to attend and observe the artists at work.

The en plein air event culminates in a one-day, celebratory art exhibition, reception and wet paint sale at the Patchogue Arts Gallery on Sunday, Sept. 3, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibition features artwork created exclusively during the week from all participating artists.

Professional artists 18 and over entered the juried exhibition where prizes, generously provided by Artist & Craftsman Supply, Hempstead, will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. For the first time this year, the Patchogue Arts Council is pleased to announce the Young Artist category, which will feature artwork from artists under the age of 17.

Looking for a painting of your favorite Great South Bay hot spot? All artwork exhibited on Sept. 3 will be for sale during the wet art sale. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Patchogue Arts Council to help the local non-profit continue its missions of creating events and programs that encourage, promote and support the arts on Long Island.

We would like to thank our sponsors Swell Taco, Patchogue and Artist & Craftsman Supply, Hempstead for their generous support. A special thank you goes to Gina Lento, founder and co-chair of Paint the Great South Bay.
