Dates announced for this year’s townwide Thanksgiving Food Drive in Brookhaven

|

The townwide Thanksgiving Food Drive will begin Monday, Oct. 16, and run through Wednesday, Nov. 15, with four drop-off locations across Brookhaven Town.

Last year’s drive provided hearty meals to 820 families.

The Brookhaven Youth Bureau INTERFACE Program is running the drive, which comes in partnership between what are described by the town as “individuals, generous corporate neighbors and the Town of Brookhaven.”

“There are many families that struggle every day to put food on the table,” Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine said in a statement announcing the drive. “Our Thanksgiving Food Drive not only helps those families, but it also reminds us about the true meaning of the holiday season. I ask everyone to give thanks for what they have and please open your hearts to those in need.”

The drop-off points for this year’s drive are at:

• Brookhaven Town Hall, One Independence Hill in Farmingville
• Henrietta Acampora Recreation Center, 39 Montauk Highway in Blue Point
• Brookhaven Town Highway Department, 1140 Old Town Road in Coram.
• Rose Caracappa Senior Center, 739 Route 25A in Mount Sinai

The non-perishable food items suggested include, but not limited to, Thanksgiving meal staples items such as canned soups, canned cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, stuffing mix, instant potatoes, canned sweet or white potatoes, rice, canned vegetables, jar or canned sauce, macaroni, canned fruit, pudding, jello, cookie mix, cake mix, icing and juice.

Due to refrigeration requirements, the town cannot accept frozen turkeys.

Or, residents can donate $10 gift cards from local supermarkets, which would help families in need purchase turkeys for their Thanksgiving.

Food Drive drop-off hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For additional information contact Josie Lunde at the youth bureau at (631) 451-8011.
