Winter Storm Warning issued; 7 to 10 inches expected in Suffolk

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that starts at midnight tonight and runs to 8 a.m. on Thursday.

The warning is in effect for all of western Suffolk County, with 7 to 10 inches expected. Localized amounts of up to 13 inches area possible.

The heaviest snow will be falling Wednesday afternoon into the evening.

The storm is also expected to pack strong winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts of up to 45 mph. The high will reach 34 degrees on Wednesday.

Thursday will be mostly sunny with highs around 42 degrees.

“Plan on difficult travel conditions,” the warning reads. “Tree branches could fall. “Expect significant reductions in visibility at times.”

There’s also a significant risk of coastal flooding along the Sound and bays.
