The West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition held one of its major events this week at Captain Bill’s in Bay Shore.
And, the nonprofit celebrated its 25th anniversary.
The Celebrating The Community luncheon happens each year and serves as an awareness and appreciation day for the group, which assists local women undergoing cancer treatments.
Plaques are handed out, including one for the West Islip Fire Department, and there was a special mention of Rose Lem, who will be 96 in December.

Lem has volunteered at the group’s chief annual fundraiser, the summer Clam Shucking Contest, since the inception in 1994, “faithfully coming and working it every year,” the organizers said.
