7-Eleven opens in old Island Grill diner spot in East Patchogue

|

A sparkling new 7-Eleven gas station has opened at the former site of the Island Grill diner on Hospital Road in East Patchogue.

The old Island Grill diner, located a stone’s throw away from Long Island Community Hospital, closed down approximately a decade ago. In recent years, the property had become defaced and inhabited by squatters.

Local elected officials, Suffolk County Police, and members of the community attended the grand opening of the new 7-Eleven on Thursday.

“I can’t thank you enough,” said franchise owner Christopher Stephens, expressing gratitude for the large turnout at the store’s opening.

Stephens and his 7-Eleven team presented a check for $711 to the SCPD’s 5th Precinct, as a token of appreciation for their service.

Stephens relocated his 7-Eleven from its previous location across the street, situated on the southeast corner of Hospital Road and Sunrise Highway. The new location boasts a larger space, measuring just under 3,000 square feet, and includes 12 gas station pumps. Plans for the old 7-Eleven involve removing its gas tanks and selling the property, according to Newsday.
