It was at first thought Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts’ expansive lobby would remain open for events during the three months it’s going to take to renovate the historic building.

But it was recently determined by Patchogue Village the events should be postponed.

“The building inspector looked at the work that was going on an felt that it would be best if there weren’t any events in the lobby,” said Trustee Jack Krieger, who serves as liaison to the theater, which the village owns, although its operated by a nonprofit. “Because of the construction there’s a lot of dust and stuff like that.”

There’s also some work going on in the lobby, with painting, woodwork restoration and “general cleanup,” he said.

“It was just something that we really had to do,” Krieger said.

The last Live in the Lobby musical performance was Jan. 9, followed by the first-ever Library in the Lobby the following day.

The lobby events and performances on the main stage are set to resume April. 2.

The box office on East Main Street will still be open throughout the winter at its normal hours, Monday through Sunday, from noon to 6 p.m. Tickets for spring events are available already.
