The first-ever Singles Bar Crawl is Sunday in Patchogue

It’s hard for single people to not get a bit melancholy around Valentine’s Day.

Knowing this — and recognizing many stay home that night — the restaurants in Patchogue Village banded to together for a first-ever singles pub crawl along Main Street.

The festivities kick off Sunday, Valentine’s Day, at 7 p.m.

“This is a way of saving us from being home and eating ice cream on Valentine’s Day, watching The Notebook,” joked Tiffany Rivera, the general manager at Roast Coffee & Tea Trading Company.

Rivera is also a member of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce restaurant committee, which began planning the Anti-Valentine’s Day Singles Bar Crawl over the summer.

Tickets are $15 ahead of time through patchogue.com.

Or, stop by Roast anytime after 6 p.m. Sunday and pay $20.

What that money buys you is a T-shirt (see photo) and a lei. The lei is a signal to the bartenders that you’ll be getting discounts on any Blue Point Brewing Company beer that night.

It’s also a signal to other people out that night that you’re single.

One excited pub crawl participant from Patchogue Village is Amy Russo.

“I’ve never had plans for Valentine’s Day and now I have something to do,” said Russo, who also works at Roast. “I’m used to just spending it with my family. I’m just excited to find something to participate in that’s my demographic.”

It’s also a way to get people out to the bars on a relatively slow night, Rivera said.

The proceeds go to the chamber’s restaurant committee, which will then be donating the money to a food pantry.

The T-shirts and leis can only be picked up at Roast, which is located at 41 East Main Street.

The single bar crawlers will be starting at Fulton’s Gate at 7 p.m.
