After more than three decades of regular performances in Greenport Village, the players of Northeast Stage are bringing Shakespeare in the Park to Patchogue.

Northeast Stage will be performing As You Like It, a comedy that will include music, songs, dancing and some wrestling, according to Amie Sponza, the group’s president.

The play, directed by Hannah Gray, will be performed just one time in Patchogue Village — at 7 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Bandshell in Shorefront Park.

Trustee Lori Devlin made the announcement at Monday’s Village Board meeting.

Devlin is also president of the nonprofit Patchogue Arts Council, which is partnering with the village’s parks department in order to host the players.

“PAC is seeking sponsors to cover the costs, as it will be a free event,” Devlin said.

Aug. 7 will be the group’s final show of the year, Sponza said.

“We have been performing in Greenport for over 30 years, and outdoors in Mitchell Park  [in Greenport] for almost two decades,” Sponza said. “This is the first time we will expand our reach outside of Southold Town.”

“Shakespeare is something we believe everyone should have access to experience, not just read in school,” she added. “So our productions are free and open to the general public.”

The Shakespeare in the Park shows are held each summer in Mitchell Park.
