YMCA swimmers raise nearly $4K for free lessons in Patchogue

|

They swam for a full hour and raised nearly $4,000 in pledges at the Patchogue Family YMCA last Friday night.

The goal was to raise $1,000.

And now 38 local people — adults and children — will have access to free YMCA swimming lessons.

The first-ever “Laps for Lessons” event March 18 featured aquatic staffers taking turns in the pool and was jointly hosted by the Patchogue Family YMCA and Brookhaven Roe YMCA Center.

“The aquatics staff members have been wonderful in their hard work to put together such a triumphant event to benefit local community members,” said Anne Brigis, the president and CEO of YMCA of Long Island. “We are very excited to see the goal has been surpassed, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who kindly pledged their support to our swimmers.”

“We feel a sense of pride knowing we are able to help individuals have access to swim lessons,” added Christina Frank, the Patchogue Family YMCA’s aquatic manager.
