The Island Symphony Orchestra is kicking off its 2026-27 season with a celebration of Viennese music and food.
An Afternoon in Vienna, set for Sunday, Nov. 1, at Bay Shore Middle School, will pair some of classical music’s most beloved works with a Viennese dessert reception after the performance.
The 2 p.m. concert will feature works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert and Johann Strauss Jr. under the direction of Music Director Eric R. Stewart.
Guest soloist Juliette Greer will join the orchestra for a performance of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto.
Afterward, guests can enjoy coffee from Kismet Coffee Co., apple strudel from Cieslak’s Modern Bakery and buttery cookies from the Vienna Cookie Company.
The reception is sponsored by Harbour Club Apartments in West Babylon.
Greer, a French-American violinist, has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and ensemble player in the United States and abroad.
Since January 2025, she has toured Europe and Asia with the Orchestre de Paris. She previously served as concertmaster of the Carnegie Mellon University Philharmonic and has also performed with the New England Conservatory Symphony and Juilliard Orchestra.
“An Afternoon in Vienna” begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at Bay Shore Middle School, 393 Brook Ave.
Adult tickets are $20, while students are admitted free. Tickets will be available at the door or through Eventbrite.
The Island Symphony Orchestra will also perform Sunday, Nov. 15, at St. Patrick’s Church in Bay Shore, where members of the orchestra will join organist Raymond Henderson for Handel’s Organ Concerto in B-flat Major, Op. 4, No. 6.
That performance is free, with voluntary donations accepted.
