Drive-in movie lineup announced for this weekend at Smith Haven Mall

Back by popular demand, Long Island event producer Starfish Junction will be entertaining locals again this weekend (6/27-6/29) with the return of MOVIE LOT — a blockbuster drive-in movie series at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove. 

This weekend’s movies focus on family-friendly films and also includes a special event fundraiser for Bideawee.  Information on the schedule, safety guidelines, showtimes and ticket availability, is available at movielotdrivein.com.

MOVIE LOT, a pop-up drive-in movie experience, has entertained nearly 2,000 cars since it launched last month. Showing this weekend on the giant 52-foot screen erected in the parking lot of the Smith Haven Mall:

• “TOY STORY 4″ (6/27) 8:45 p.m.
• “YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN” (6/27) 11:45 p.m.
• “SONIC THE HEDGEHOG” (6/28) 8:45 p.m.
• “GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY” (6/29) 11:45 p.m.
• “THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2” (6/29) 8:45 p.m.

The June 29 showing of The Secret Life of Pets 2 is a special fundraiser for Bideawee, the leading no-kill pet welfare organization supporting the life-long relationships between pets and the people who love them.

** $10 from each ticket purchased for The Secret Life of Pets 2 will be donated back to Bideawee to help them continue their local efforts.  

Lake Grove was among the first Long Island towns to offer post-quarantine entertainment for local residents.  With sold-out showings, MOVIE LOT confirmed that Long Islanders were ready for a fun and safe way to embrace summer recreation as shelter-in-place restrictions loosened.   

“We continue to be amazed at the reaction of the attendees, many have shared their heartfelt stories of attending drive-in movies with their parents when they were young and are excited to bring their own kids to this re-creation of days gone by,” said Lauren Powers, Senior Director at Starfish Junction.  “Even the drive-in newbies coming out for the midnight movies are finding the experience unique and entertaining, proving what we thought when we launched the MOVIE LOT series, people are looking for some fun things to do while remaining safe during these crazy times.”

While drive-in theaters are staging a comeback across the country, Starfish Junction is positioning itself as one of the leaders here on Long Island.   Future showings will include movies perfect for date nights, family fun nights, girl’s night out, sing-alongs, and classic films.

There are a limited number of tickets available for each showing.  Tickets are on sale now ($40 per carload/$50 per carload for the Bideawee fundraiser on 6/29) and must be purchased online in advance at the MOVIE LOT website to adhere to the promise of contactless processing. 

Ticket-holders are permitted to bring their own food and snacks to enjoy during the show. Attendees may also consider Smith Haven Mall restaurants for curbside pick up before filing into the lot for the movie.  Portable restrooms will be available for use. The Smith Haven Mall is located in Lake Grove. The showings will take place rain or shine, all ticket sales are final.  Tickets and info at www.MovieLot.com.
