The Transgender Resource Center of Long Island’s second annual Long Island Equality March and LGBTQIA Pride Picnic happens tomorrow in Sayville.
“Our event is very family oriented, and it’s about bringing everyone together,” said Mila Madison, executive director of the Transgender Resource Center of Long Island. “We’re so proud to be with Sayville. The community has really embraced us.”
Here are five things you need to know about the event:
- The march starts at 1 p.m. at Depot Street near the Sayville train station, then runs south along Railroad Avenue to the Common Ground at Rotary Park in Sayville.
- There are two grand marshalls for the event: Juli Grey-Owens, an advocate for the New York transgender community for over sixteen years, is the founder, executive director and Board Chair of Gender Equality New York (GENY). Gregory Noone, program manager at Thursday’s Child, has been an LGBTQIA and AIDS activist for over 30 years.
- Admission is free to the picnic in the park, which is from 1:30-6 p.m.
- At least 15 vendors will set up tables at the picnic. Among them: Bubbles & Bowls, Thursday’s Child, Camp Ga’avah, Kona Ice of the LI South Shore and and the StoryTime Soap Company.
- The picnic includes special performances by Ryan Cassata, The Rose Monarch and Trans Trenderz.
