It was always a dream of Bay Shore resident Jorge Santos to own his very own restaurant.
Now he’s honoring the woman who fueled his passion.
“I grew up with my grandmother, she really likes to cook and I learned some recipes from her,” Santos said. “That’s why it’s called My Grandmother’s Kitchen.”
My Grandmother’s Kitchen is a homestyle breakfast and lunch spot located at 169 Main St., in the heart of Farmingdale village.
Right next to the train tracks, the intimate luncheonette was made to feel just like walking into grandma’s house, Jorge says.
As for the menu, Santos said many of the items listed are his grandmother’s own recipes to which he wanted to pay tribute.
These include the lemon-poppy ricotta cheese and blueberry pancakes, classic eggs Benedict, the grandmother’s egg combo, and the grandmother omelet, to name a few.
Since its April 18 grand opening, Santos said most people who visit My Grandmother’s Kitchen express how comfortable the restaurant and staff make them feel.
“It’s a family restaurant, that was the idea to make them feel like we are a family,” Santos said. “I cook with my heart, the quality, and the product, everything is fresh — I think people love the environment, they always say there’s something special here.”
My Grandmother’s Kitchen is open seven days a week, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The upstairs space is made available to customers on weekends.
