Great Eats: Supreme Philly Cheesesteaks marks a year in Babylon Village

For a long time, Long Islanders needed to travel 100s of miles for a true, Philadelphia-style cheesesteak — complete with sautéed ribeye beef and Cheez Whiz.

The “Philly Cheesesteaks” at most Long Island delis are typically nothing more than roast beef on an Italian hero with melted cheese.

Babylon is among just a few Long Island areas that boasts its own cheesesteak place.

And the owner of Supreme Philly Cheese Steaks in Babylon Village, Jerry Pariaros, wants everyone in GreaterBabylon to know they can get a true taste of Philadelphia right on Railroad Avenue.

“[Other restaurants] use Steak-umm or roast beef,” said Paiaros, of Plainview. “We use ribeye steak and real wiz, plus we have more stuff — because we are New Yorkers.”

Growing up with family in Philadelphia, it was always a dream of Pariaros to open his own Philly cheesesteak shop on Long Island.

His dream turned into reality in the spring of 2016, when he opened up at 20 Railroad Avenue in a location that previously housed another cheesesteak businesses, FAT’s.

If you were having trouble keeping track, the new shop recently marked its one-year anniversary.

“Babylon Village is very nice, it’s quiet, and it’s unique,” he said.

With over 20 years of cooking experience, Pariaros insists his cheesesteaks are better than the widely popular Geno’s Steaks and Pat’s King of Steaks of Philadelphia.

“They have the quantity, but not the quality,” he said. “Here, everything is made to order.”

Many Facebook and Yelp users agree.

Jim Litsas left a review on Facebook saying the cheesesteaks were “very tasty meat bursting from the garlic bread.”

A reviewer from Yelp said the name does the shop justice.

“It was so much steak in there that I had to take a second look to make sure they added toppings on the Works sandwich. Simply delicious and very fulfilling,” said Michael C., a Yelper.
