Newly elected Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon hosted the first-ever National Night Out for the sheriff’s office last week at Dix Hills Park.
To celebrate the annual, countywide community-building campaign, the Sheriff invited the public to meet his staff while playing street hockey together.
“Anything we can do to get closer to the community makes me really happy,” said Toulon.
The Sheriff, who plays and coaches hockey himself, invited the New York Rangers to help mark the event.
On hand was former New York Rangers defensemen Tom Laidlaw.
“When I was small and met an NHL player, it was nice, and meant so much to me,” Laidlaw told GreaterBabylon.
In addition to hockey, there was karaoke, games, ice cream and Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office vehicles on display.
“I want people to see the sheriff’s office is a great career,” said Toulon.
