Williston Park native and award-winning lyricist and composer Stephen Schwartz will be inducted into the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame next month.
The immensely talented Schwartz has been wildly successful on Broadway, composing “Wicked,” “Godspell,” “Pippin,” and “Pocahontas,” among other stage hits.
“Long Island has proven to be especially fertile ground for producing major talents in the fields of music and entertainment,” said Schwartz, who grew up in Williston Park and graduated from Mineola High School.
“The list of names is long and impressive,” he continued. “It’s a great honor for me to be recognized as being a part of that amazing tradition.”
Schwartz studied piano and composition at the Juilliard School while in high school and earned a drama degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1968.
He has won four Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards, and a Golden Globe Award. Additionally, he has received six Tony Award nominations and a Laurence Olivier Award.
The induction ceremony is March 24 at 7 p.m. at the Hall of Fame’s headquarters at 97 Main St. in Stony Brook.
A concert featuring performances of music from Schwartz will follow the induction ceremony.
