Long Islanders are in for a rare treat this January as one of classical music’s brightest rising stars, Emmanuel Coppey, concludes his first U.S. tour with a performance at the Island Symphony Bach Festival.
The 25-year-old French violinist, winner of the 2023 Lillian and Maurice Barbash J.S. Bach Competition, will take the stage at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, at St. Peter’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Bay Shore.
Dana T. Marsh, Artistic Director of the renowned Washington Bach Consort, described Coppey as an artist to watch, saying “Emmanuel Coppey’s musical artistry stretches far beyond his years to great refinement. He is a very important and revelatory artist to watch!”
Hear Coppey perform Partita in D Minor below.
The second half of the program shifts to the Romantic era with the Island Symphony Orchestra performing Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 3 in E Minor, Op. 98, under the direction of Eric R. Stewart.
The Island Symphony Orchestra, established in 1971, is one of Long Island’s most respected community orchestras. The 2025 season promises additional highlights, including a special performance by New York Philharmonic flautist and piccolo player Mindy Kaufman. Kaufman will debut a new composition by Eric R. Stewart, inspired by the calls of birds native to New York State.
This concert is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and administered by The Huntington Arts Council.
