Ditch owners taking their beachy vibe in Bay Shore to Port Jefferson

|

Eat at Ditch is expanding to the North Shore.

The beach-themed surf bar and restaurant in Bay Shore is opening a second location on Main Street in Port Jefferson next month.

It will replace another bar and restaurant, Spycoast.

“We’ve been looking for a new location for the past year,” co-owner Tracy Smith told Greater Long Island, who launched the concept in Bay Shore in 2023 with Alex Anderson. “We looked in a few different areas, but we really wanted to get in front of a main street. It fits really well with what we do.”

What they do is combine laid-back casual vibes from the East End with a menu inspired by California-style beach food.

Ditch ofers tacos, sandwiches, soups, salads and plenty of seafood options. For now, Smith said that lunch and dinner menu will remain the same at the new location.

What’s different about Port Jefferson will be the brunch offerings.

“In Bay Shore, brunch was just a few items as an add-on to our regular menu,” said Smith. “In Port Jefferson, we will have a completely separate brunch menu beginning in September.”

Also new in Port Jeff will be extended hours on Friday and Saturday, for those who like to keep the night going.

The plan is for the kitchen to stay open until 2 a.m. for both sit-down and to-go orders.

And since the restaurant’s name is an ode to Ditch Plains, the popular Montauk beach, Smith said the decor is very important to make you feel like you are out East.

“It’s exciting to take stuff that’s been in my brain for two years and bring it to reality,” she said.

Eat at Ditch at 140 Main Street in Port Jefferson is expected to open August 11.

The spot in Bay Shore opened in July of 2023.
