Trader Joe’s walls rise in Miller Place, new store is taking shape

|

Trader Joe’s is no longer just a promise in Miller Place — it’s an actual building taking shape.

The foundation is in place and the main concrete structure has risen, with the steel framework for the storefront now visible. Construction materials and equipment are scattered across the property as crews continue to build what will become the newest Trader Joe’s location on Long Island.

The national grocery chain has acknowledged the project, posting a “Coming Soon” note on its website:

“We’ve consulted our maps and compass and have found a terrific location for a store in Miller Place. We are proud to be joining the neighborhood, and to continue our commitment to providing nourishment to the surrounding communities through our Neighborhood Shares program.”

The project was approved by the Brookhaven Town Board last December. As previously reported by Greater Long Island, the new Trader Joe’s, located at 300 Rte 25A Miller Place, next to Walgreens, west will span just under 13,500 square feet.

Trader Joe’s isn’t the only development taking shape in the immediate vicinity. On the other side of Walgreen’s, construction crews are building a brand-new True Value Hardware store (on property formerly occupied by Ging’s Nursery).

The two new businesses — plus the existing Walgreens and a McDonald’s — will be connected via an interior access road, a key component of the development plan approved by town officials.

The Miller Place project marks Trader Joe’s latest expansion into Suffolk County. The specialty grocer currently operates seven stores on Long Island, including in Lake Grove, Commack and Plainview.

Trader Joe’s has not yet announced an opening date for the Miller Place location.
