Long Islanders are rallying to support the family of Scott Letizia, the Patchogue resident who died Tuesday from the severe injuries he suffered in an early morning wreck that destroyed a Patchogue storefront on Monday.
Letizia, 33, had married his wife, Marissa, in March. And the newlyweds were still settling into the Canaan Lake home they purchased in June.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $7,600 as of Wednesday afternoon, as residents look to provide financial relief for Marissa Letizia and help cover funeral expenses.
“Anybody fortunate enough to have known Scott can feel the sudden and tragic loss of a real friend,” Bill Schwegler of East Patchogue wrote on the fundraiser page. “Scott was fun to be around, trustworthy and carried a genuinely calm and comforting personality.
“Please consider contributing what you can to his loving wife and loving family who are suddenly dealing with unimaginable tragedy,” he added.
Letizia was a loyal volunteer with Angels of Long Island, and was fondly remembered in a public tribute posted Tuesday by Angels founder Debbie Loesch.
Letizia’s vehicle sped south on across Main Street about 5:30 a.m. Monday and slammed into an empty South Ocean Avenue storefront that formerly was home to Richard York shoe store.
Investigation continues

He was taken to the hospital with massive injuries and died on Tuesday, Suffolk police confirmed. Friends have said Letizia suffered from a medical emergency while behind the wheel, though authorities have not released additional information concerning what may have caused Letizia to be driving so fast and crash into the storefront.
