Island 16: Cinema de Lux in Holtsville hopes to reopen in time for Friday night showtimes following its temporary closure this week over building safety concerns.
A theater employee confirmed that maintenance crews are actively addressing the issues that led to Wednesday morning’s shutdown.
While evening movie showings from 6 p.m. onward are still scheduled, the theater is not yet selling tickets for earlier showtimes due to uncertainty about when the repairs will be completed and official approval will be granted by the town’s fire marshal.
The closure came in the wake of a blizzard that swept across Long Island earlier this week, which may have contributed to conditions requiring inspection and repairs.
Town officials said snow-blocked exit doors was one of the issues.
A notice posted on the front door Wednesday morning states that the structure “has been deemed unsafe for occupancy” by the Town of Brookhaven Department of Public Safety – Division of Fire Prevention.
