Thousands of people took to Patchogue River Sunday for the annual Christmas Holiday Boat Parade, which organizers said drew the most boats — and biggest crowds — ever.
The boat “For My Girls,” captained by Bruce Parker, took top honors among the 25 boats that participated in the decorating competition. The vessel’s theme, in keeping with the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce’s suggested Disney theme, was Pirates of the Caribbean.
Parker underwent a kidney transplant on Sept. 29, with the living donor being Tara Berges, and he and her family joined together on his 32-foot Carver Mariner to celebrate Sunday night.
The boat was also adorned with a glowing green ribbon for the Donate Life America organization.
Parker accepted his trophy Sunday night at Off Key Tikki.
This marked the 22nd parade.
