Aldi’s expansion on Long Island is heating up with two stores opening this month.
The first of the new locations debuted on Dec. 5 in Central Islip, located at 215 Carleton Avenue, in the former site of the New York Institute of Technology campus.
Next up is East Northport, where Aldi will open at 4000 Jericho Turnpike on Dec. 12, taking over the space previously occupied by a Barnes & Noble bookstore.
“Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier,” said Chris Daniels, divisional vice president for Aldi’s South Windsor division, regarding the opening of the new stores.
More expansion
Aldi has even bigger plans for 2025, with three more Long Island locations in the works, according to Newsday.
- Medford: The new store will move into 2799 Route 112, a space previously home to Michaels, which relocated within the Medford Crossings shopping center.
- Lake Ronkonkoma: Aldi is set to take over the former King Kullen at 153 Ronkonkoma Avenue.
- Bethpage: The retailer will fill the old A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts location at 3988 Hempstead Turnpike.
These openings are part of Aldi’s $9 billion nationwide expansion plans, which aims to add 800 new stores across the country by 2028.
Aldi’s Long Island journey
The December openings bring Aldi’s Long Island store count to 15. The supermarket chain first arrived on the Island in 2011 with its Bay Shore location. Over the years, it has established itself in communities across the region, with stores now in Lindenhurst, Patchogue, Selden, Lake Grove, Riverhead, Rocky Point, Bohemia, Valley Stream, Carle Place, North Babylon, Shirley, and Hempstead.
