Long Island Lutheran is about to get a little more star power.
Egypt Dean, the 15-year-old son of music icons Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, is leaving his home in California for Brookville, where the standout sophomore basketball player will join the nationally recognized program at LuHi.
The 6’4 guard has already attracted Division I attention, including a scholarship offer from Nevada.
“Egypt is dynamic player, who understands the game at a high level for his age,” LuHi head coach John Buck told Greater Long Island. “He possesses leadership skills that will impact not just our program, but will add to our school as a whole.”
Dean spent his freshman season at La Jolla Country Day, just outside of San Diego, where he averaged 8.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
Unlike his previous school, LuHi plays a national schedule against some of the top programs and players in the country, which would better prepare him for what he says is his dream to eventually play in the NBA.
In addition to hoops, Dean has also been following in his parent’s musical footsteps.
Not only does he play the piano, Dean has already produced music.
One of his early beats was used by Kendrick Lamar when Dean was just 5 years old.
He’s also gotten involved in business, using the royalties from the production work to make a recent investment in basketball-oriented sports drink Ballislife HYDRO.
“Well, my dad is a very, very, very good investor,” Dean said in an interview with Boardroom earlier this month. “I’ve learned from a very young age that he’s a great investor. And he’s taught me that investing early is a very good thing to do in the long run. So choosing something that’s basketball-related would be the best step.”
Dean won’t be the first high-profile name to wear the Crusaders uniform. Kiyan Anthony, the son of NBA star Carmelo Anthony, played his final two high school seasons at Long Island Lutheran before graduating in 2025. He now plays for Syracuse University.
Dean told PEOPLE his goal is to play at Duke after graduating high school.
The new season tips off in two months.
