‘Alive After Five Winter Wonderland’ returns to Patchogue Dec. 12

|

Patchogue will again become a Winter Wonderland.

Well at least on Thursday, Dec. 12 it will be when the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce hosts its second annual Alive After Five Winter Wonderland.

Despite the rain last year, shoppers and nighttime revelers still flocked to Main Street — between Ocean Avenue and Maple Avenue — for the festivities.

“We were really impressed by the crowd,” said the chamber’s executive director, David Kennedy, on returning the winter edition of Alive After Five.

According to Kennedy, a lot of the same fun will be returning to Main Street, including marshmallow roasting, bouncy houses, photos with Santa Claus outside of Sensational Sweet, and rides on a trackless train.

The instantly popular snowglobe photo booth will also be returning

“The snowglobe was especially popular last year,” said Kennedy. “It is a lot of fun, and you take your holiday photos.”

The event, which runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. is aimed to highlight the shopping experience in the downtown during the holiday season.

“This is a special Alive After Five that is really focused on our retail stores in Patchogue,” said Kennedy, who says a retail scavenger hunt is in the works.

This year, New Village at Patchogue will be participating in the Winter Wonderland with a tree lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m., along with hosting a variety of family-friendly activities.

The chamber is also working on bringing a 40×60-foot ice skating rink to town.

“We were approved by the village to have the rink in the parking lot behind the Patchogue Theatre,” said Kennedy.

The only roadblock right now is funding, said Kennedy. The chamber is around $6,000 short.

If the money is secured, ice skating would be open on Friday and Saturday, as well.
