Barnes & Noble had announced in August that a new Huntington Station location was set to open last fall.

But fall came and went.

Then the company was excited to finally open its doors this month at 301 Walt Whitman Road, across from Walt Whitman Shops — and in the same strip as Men’s Warehouse.

Thursday, Barnes & Noble pushed its grand opening back again.

But not by much.

“The new opening date will fall in early April, with exact details to come,” a statement reads.

The company pointed to “unexpected permitting issues” for the delay.

But it’ll happen, they promise. The new location is set to open some two years after the Manhattan-based company closed its much larger store in East Northport — which was more in its traditional size and style.

Barnes & Noble is planning to open at least 60 new stores in 2025, according to Business Insider, “a stunning turnaround for a bookseller that just a few years ago closed hundreds of locations and appeared doomed to follow in the footsteps of its shuttered former competitors.”

Barnes & Noble opened 57 new locations in 2024 and operates around 600 stores in total,” making it the largest bookseller in the U.S.,” Business Insider reported last month.

The last Barnes & Noble location to open on Long Island happened in Bridgehampton in November 2023.
