Bay Shore High School is planning something special for Veterans Day.
The Bay Shore student council will be decorating the school’s front lawn with flags on Nov. 8 and Nov. 9.
This will be part of a fundraiser for the local American Legion in Bay Shore.
“For every dollar donated, a flag will be placed on the lawn,” read a statement from the principal’s office, issued last week.
In addition to the flag, donors will have the opportunity to have a poster created to honor a particular veteran.
This is the first time the high school is partaking in this project.
“The field of flags will be a fitting tribute to the men and women who have served our country,” said Bay Shore School District superintendent, Joseph Bond. “I am proud of our students for undertaking this project to create a visual display of the gratitude our community has for our veterans’ service. We owe our veterans a debt that cannot be repaid, and it is wonderful to see our young citizens take this step to honor them.”
Here is the breakdown for donations:
- $1 = 1 flag
- $5 = 6 flags
- $10 = 12 flags
- $20 = 25 flags
- $50 = 60 flags
- $75 = 100 flags
- $100 = 150 flags
