A Bay Shore man who worked as both an Uber and school bus driver pleaded guilty Tuesday to repeatedly raping a 12-year-old child over the course of nearly a year, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said.
Miguel Enrique Diaz, 49, admitted in court that between December 2022 and October 2023 he sexually assaulted the child in the backseat of his car and inside his home, Tierney said. During that period, Diaz drove for Uber and also was a bus driver in the Bay Shore School District.
The victim disclosed the abuse to her mother in March 2024, who then contacted police. Diaz was arrested on March 13, 2024, following an investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department’s Special Victims Section.
On Monday, Diaz pleaded guilty to first-degree course of sexual conduct against a child before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen Wilutis.
“Today’s conviction represents a measure of justice for the young victim who showed tremendous courage in coming forward,” Tierney said.
On Oct. 24, he is expected to be sentenced to 16 years in prison, followed by 15 years of post-release supervision. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
