Beechwood Homes to be tapped as developer in Mastic Beach revitalization project

|

Visions of grandeur for Mastic Beach’s embattled downtown business district are steadily becoming a reality.

Brookhaven Deputy Town Supervisor Dan Panico announced Thursday morning that the town board at its meeting later in the day will designate Beechwood Homes as master developer — pursuant to the request for qualifications process — of a project that would transform Neighborhood Road and help reinvent the hamlet as a vibrant seaside community.

“This is the latest step, and a major step, in realizing the revitalization of downtown Mastic Beach,” Panico announced. “I … know that they possess the ability and credentials essential to realize the comprehensive mixed use redevelopment that has been sought after by residents for quite some time.”

One of the largest developers of single family and multifamily housing in New York state, Beechwood Homes is the developer of the condos at The Boulevard in Yaphank.

Suffolk County’s approval earlier this month of the Forge River sewer extension project helped unlock the potential for redevelopment in Mastic Beach. Town officials want the developer to prepare a comprehensive plan that blends housing, retail and restaurants — a project that make Mastic Beach a destination community.

“Brick by brick, and block by block, every action we take is in furtherance of writing a new positive chapter in the history of Mastic Beach,” Panico said in a Facebook post. “There is a considerable process ahead of us, but we endeavor to make the real positive change that people wish to see.”
