A single-car crash in Yaphank early Monday morning killed a 22-year-old Bellport man and sent three others to Stony Brook University Hospital, Suffolk County Police said.
Jefry Valdez Cruz, 25, of Medford, was driving a 2015 BMW southbound on Bellport Avenue, between Long Island Avenue and Horseblock Road, about 2:50 a.m. when his car swerved into the northbound lane, left the road, and slammed into several trees, police reported.
Passenger Edgar Guevara Ramos, 22, of Bellport, died at the scene. Valdez Cruz suffered serious injuries, while passengers Jason Cruz, 24, of Medford, and Gustavo Martinez Caceres, 26, of Selden, were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The BMW was impounded for a safety check as detectives continue their investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Fifth Squad at 631.854.8552.
