Bellport’s Alex Vargas looks to remain undefeated in third pro bout

|

Since becoming a pro in September, Bellport’s Alex Vargas has a clean 2-0 boxing record—both wins coming by unanimous decisions.

Now the 23-year-old, who is known as El Toro in the ring, is facing his most experienced opponent yet in Maryland-resident Benjamin Borteye (4-4).  The 35-year-old boxer’s four wins were all by knockouts.

“My opponent has a lot of power,” said Vargas. “But we trained with the best for this fight.”

The four-round fight is scheduled on the Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing “Rockin’ Fights”34 fight card at The Paramount of Huntington this Friday.

Vargas is no stranger to the North Shore venue having won his first two professional fights there. In his debut win, he helped draw the “loudest crowd ever” to the building.

And he says he is going to continue to impress in his next fight.

“It would mean a lot to start the year off with a win and continue growing my name,” said the southpaw. “We look forward to another win.”
