Bellport’s Alex Vargas remains undefeated, wins second pro fight at The Paramount

|

Bellport boxer Alex “El Toro” Vargas continues to make his mark in the pros.

On Friday, in front of a packed Paramount Theatre in Huntington, Vargas advanced to 2-0 after defeating Rochester native Jarrill Haadi (0-1) by unanimous decision.

“It felt good to get another win and become 2-0 in front of a sold-out crowd,” said Vargas, a southpaw fighter.

After his win, the Paramount erupted into chants cheering for Vargas.

This wasn’t the first time the Bellporter had the support of the Huntington crowd, having won his pro debut at The Paramount in September.

Vargas was one of four Long Island fighters to have a match in Friday night’s event, which is run by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing Rockin’ Fights.

The main card included Greenlawn native and former welterweight world champion Chris Algieri, who was returning to fighting after a nearly two-year absence from being inside the ring.

Algieri (22-3) won by unanimous decision after beating Texas native Angel Hernandez (14-12-2) in a super lightweight bout.
