Bellport’s Alex Vargas win streak continues, he’s now a perfect 6-0 as a pro boxer

|

Bellport’s Alex Vargas had The Paramount rocking once again as he defeated Antonio Sanchez Hernandez (6-9-3, 3 KO) on Friday night to improve to a perfect 6-0 professional boxing record.

The southpaw fighter, who was fighting on the Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing “Rockin’ Fights” 38 card, won by unanimous decision.

In typical El Toro fashion, the crowd was chanting for Vargas throughout the fight.

“I can definitely hear [the chants], the ring was shaking,” said Vargas. “They give you the motivation to stay sharp.”

Vargas said this was the toughest opponent he’s faced yet in his pro career.

“He’s the hardest puncher I’ve fought so far,” Vargas told GreaterPatchogue after the win. He’s also the most experienced boxer the Bellporter has battled thus far.

It was also the 24-year-old’s second match that was scheduled for six rounds — his first four fights were four rounds.

“I am getting more comfortable in the ring,” he said. “It is so different with the small gloves and no head gear. Your first fights your cautious of getting knocked out or cut.”
