Stony Brook University leads Long Island colleges in Niche’s newly released 2027 Best Colleges in America rankings, coming in at No. 155 nationally.
Niche’s annual rankings use federal data along with millions of reviews from students and alumni to evaluate colleges on academics, admissions, financial factors, student life and other measures.
Here are the five highest-ranked Long Island colleges in Niche’s 2027 national rankings:
1. Stony Brook University (No. 155 nationally)

Stony Brook is the clear Long Island leader, earning an overall Niche grade of A-. It also stands out for diversity, ranking No. 41 nationally among the Most Diverse Colleges in America. The university also ranks highly in several academic categories, including No. 69 nationally for math, No. 74 for physics and No. 104 for computer science.
2. Molloy University (No. 221 nationally)

The Rockville Centre university earned a B+ overall grade and an A for value. Molloy is particularly notable for affordability, ranking No. 9 nationally among Best Value Colleges. It also ranked No. 21 among Best Colleges in America for Nursing. In both categories, it is No. 1 in New York. Additionally, it’s education program ranked No. 1 in the state.
3. Adelphi University (No. 327 nationally)

The Garden City university earned a B+ overall grade. Adelphi performed particularly well in nursing, ranking No. 75 nationally, along with strong rankings in performing arts.
4. SUNY Farmingdale State College (No. 453 nationally)

Farmingdale earned a B overall grade and an A for value. The college’s reported net price is $9,655, and Niche ranks it No. 6 in New York for Best Value Colleges.
5. Hofstra University (No. 646 nationally)

Hofstra earned a B overall grade, but its overall ranking doesn’t tell the entire story. The Hempstead university ranks No. 64 nationally for music, No. 70 for public health and No. 73 for performing arts.
